"Dear God, I promise I will never waste my food, no matter how bad it can taste and how full I may be. I pray that He will protect this little boy, guide and deliver him away from his misery. I pray that we will be more sensitive towards the world around us and not be blinded by our own selfish nature and interests."......
These were the words that Kevin Carter wrote in his diary and were discovered shortly after he committed suicide.
This famine-stricken child was crawling towards a UN food camp, located a kilometer away. The vulture was waiting for the child to die..... No-one knows what happened to the child, including Kevin Carter, who was the photographer and left the location immediately after taking the photograph.
Before we judge Kevin, which is easy, due to the depression he experienced from witnessing this horror, he committed suicide three months later, leaving his seven-year old daughter Megan......
Please take a moment to reflect on our blessings. Let us never take anyone, or anything, for granted.
Those of us who have been blessed with children, accept them for who they are, love them unconditionally, and allow them to discover their path in life for themselves. Thank God we have been given the gift to nurture, both materially and spiritually, and protect an innocent soul that will be so influenced by our actions......and more importantly, our words.
When we find ourself complaining about the trivial material items we think we need, the food we waste daily, reconsider what is really important in our life, and what we really want for our children as we guide them while they grow up.
Let us be thankful for the blessings we have....
